The Criminal Justice Task Force is a grass roots movement of citizens concerned about our Criminal Justice System.
Our mission is to lobby the Missouri State Legislature for sentencing laws that are fair and humane.
We believe that all Americans deserve basic human rights, including protection against cruel and unusual punishment, and that begins with fair sentencing structure.
History of Kansas City Criminal Justice Task Force
After making many calls to the Death Penalty office for help on LWOP sentences,
we decided to reach out to families of the incarcerated and we formed a support
2001 - We started out meeting at Redemption Catholic Church in mid-town.
With all the sad stories we were hearing from family members we decided
we needed to be more then just a support group, we needed to show folks
how to help themselves.
2002 - We moved to a church in Independence and went to work changing legislation
making it our main goal.
2003– As our group grew we moved to The Church of the Good Shepherd in Kansas
City North where we currently meet the 1st Monday of every month. We remain not only
a support group for families of the incarcerated, but a working group for:
Long Term Sentencing & Life w/o Parole legislation.
Mid 2003 - Satellite group started in Jeff City.
2007 - Satellite group started in Northeast KC at the Buford Library.
